About Shelly Miller
I have been an Oregonian since the age of three. I married a 4th generation native Oregonian and we have made our home in Newberg for over 20 years. Our son along with two fur babies complete our family. Over the years, we have built, owned and managed commercial businesses that have allowed us the flexibility to follow our passions. For as long as I can remember, I have had the desire to travel. Our family has made time to explore a priority. I have enjoyed the opportunity to share Oregon’s beauty with friends and family throughout the years. Opening Guide Me Oregon combines my love for travel and my desire to share all that Oregon can offer.
Guide Me Oregon: How it All Began
In the summer of 2016 a distant relative came to stay with us. Her visit germinated the seed of Guide me Oregon. Traveling as a new sonographer with several locations to choose from, she felt Oregon was the best option for her first assignment. Never having visited Oregon before and not knowing where to stay or who to stay with she contacted my husband for some advice. Her options were limited due to the popularity of Oregon in the summer months so we offered her a room in our home. During her days off, we traveled Oregon sharing all the hot spots, tourist spots, hidden spots and our favorite spots. While visiting The Vista House, she casually mentioned to me that I should be an Oregon tour guide. I dismissed it quickly and laughingly said “yea right and I’d call it Guide Me Oregon” …and in that moment, with a big smile, she just looked at me as if I just sealed my fate and unlocked what I’ve been looking for all these years. That was the moment I began to think of Guide Me Oregon as a possibility. After she went home, Guide Me Oregon grew into more than a possibility. I made it reality. She found her dream job close to her home and to this day, that single trip to Oregon, was the only traveling position she ever accepted. We strongly feel our paths were meant to cross that summer, just so destiny could work its magic. She will forever hold a special place in my heart.
